DCA calculator
Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) means investing the same amount at regular intervals, such as every month, whether the market is up or down. For example, putting in 500,000 VND a month for 10 years at an assumed 10% a year adds up to 60,000,000 VND contributed and an ending value of about 102,422,489 VND. Results are illustrative only.
The DCA formula
FV = P × ((1 + r/12)^n − 1) ÷ (r/12)
- FV: ending value
- P: amount added each month
- r: assumed yearly return (10% = 0.1)
- n: number of months (years × 12)
The formula assumes you add money at the end of each month and returns compound monthly. With r = 0, the ending value equals what you put in.
Worked example
| Assumed yearly return | Total contributed | Ending value | Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7% | 60,000,000 VND | 86,542,404 VND | 26,542,404 VND |
| 10% | 60,000,000 VND | 102,422,489 VND | 42,422,489 VND |
| 12% | 60,000,000 VND | 115,019,345 VND | 55,019,345 VND |
